It is part of the gynecological examination.

It is recommended that those between the ages of 30-65 should have an HPV test every 2-3 years and once every 5 years.
Age 65 and over is not required if no unexpected situation has been detected before.
There is no problem in pregnant women having a smear test.

Things to consider before the Pap Smear test:

It must have been 10-20 days since the start of the period.
You should not have sexual intercourse for 48 hours before the test.
An extra cleaning should not be done to the vagina and drugs and creams should not be applied.
In case of any infection, the treatment should be completed first and then the Pap Smear test should be done.

How are the results of the Pap Smear test evaluated?

Pap smear test result; It can come as normal-abnormal or positive-negative.

Negative result: It means that there is no problem in the cervix. Cervical cells are completely normal. No treatment is applied.

A positive result means that there are abnormalities in the cervical cells. However, this condition should not be directly associated with cervical cancer. There are many levels of positive results.

If your Pap Smear test is positive; The doctor may perform colposcopy using a special magnifying glass called a colposcope to examine the cervix and vagina tissues. He or she may take a tissue sample (biopsy) from the area that looks abnormal. The tissue sample taken is then sent to the laboratory for analysis and definitive diagnosis.
