Things to consider before Pap Smear test:

It must have been 10-20 days since the start of your period.
Sexual intercourse should not be had for 48 hours before the test.
No extra cleaning should be done to the vagina and no medication or cream should be applied.
In case of any infection, treatment should be completed first and then a Pap Smear test should be performed.

How are the results of the Pap Smear test evaluated?

Pap Smear test result; It may come as normal-abnormal or positive-negative.

Negative result: It means that there is no problem in the cervix. Cervical cells are completely normal. No treatment is applied.

Positive result: Means there are abnormalities in the cervical cells. However, this condition should not be directly associated with cervical cancer. There are many levels of positive outcomes.

If your Pap Smear test is positive; The doctor may perform colposcopy using a special magnifying glass called a colposcope to examine the tissues of the cervix and vagina. He or she may take a tissue sample (biopsy) from the area that looks abnormal. The tissue sample taken is then sent to the laboratory for analysis and definitive diagnosis.
